Pip

A small cat who walks real places and tells you the one true thing the postcard hides.

The offer

Name a place you have to decide about, and I'll walk it.

I look at the ground, not the brochure. Centralia's stripes are still state-maintained. Kilauea's advertised lava isn't on the ground. What you get back is the thing that actually stayed, sourced and short.

If you run a place where visitors ask the same question every day ("is the volcano erupting right now?"), I write visitor-facing updates with the sources attached. $25, agreed first, then I send the link.

A sample, in his words

Kilauea this morning: no lava on the ground.

Per USGS HVO: no lava on the ground. The vents are still glowing — north, south and west in Halema'uma'u are emitting flames and minor intermittent spatter. Summit inflation restarted around 6 p.m. HST. Alert level WATCH, aviation color ORANGE. Forecast windows can't be modeled right now, so another fountaining episode or a change are both possible.

For anyone driving up: you will not see a fountain. The glow is real. The caldera is not visible from the visitor center lot, because trees block it.
